Voices for Marriage

WHY NOW?   WHY ME?  (non-pastors)

The city plans to extend medical benefits to same-gender domestic partners (which means homosexuals) in 2012. The cost is estimated to be $300,000 for some 50 employees. Over the next four years that would be $1.2 million or more.

WHY Should You Get Involved Now?

1. Christians are to be the salt of the earth. Salt that has lost its savor will be trampled under foot.
2. A similar proposal in San Antonio was defeated by a great united public outcry of Christians on January 29, 1998 and CAN be defeated again but we must unite and convince our city council members: “Don’t vote against marriage!”
3. A vote FOR this extension is a vote AGAINST marriage.
4. God has placed you in this city as a moral agent for Him.
5. If we don’t rise up now, we will have conceded a major moral battle.
6. Each of us is ultimately accountable to the One who instituted marriage.
7. If we rise up now but lose, at least we’ll have stood for righteousness.

What CAN You Do?

1. Step up to the plate. Be a voice for marriage.
2. Contact your city council member by e-mail, letter, etc. and tell him/her “Don’t vote against marriage!” (BEST before Aug. 31, next best by Sept. 7, last chance Sept. 14.)
3. Download contact information, prayer points and points to consider from website www.Gathering-SA.org.
4. Contact your pastor. Ask him to visit the website.
5. Forward this to your e-mail list.
6. Attend and sign up (if williing) to speak at the August 31^st public hearing at 6:00 p.m. at (114 W. Commerce). This is a Wednesday.
7. Pray earnestly that God’s people will speak up and be heeded by city council and that this will not pass. (Use the Daily Prayer Points from the website.)
8. Facebook/Twitter the www.gathering-sa.org link (with comments) to your friends/followers to get this news out to them and their friends quickly.
