Voices for Marriage
WHY NOW?   WHY ME?  (for Pastors)

updated 8/24/11

The city plans to extend medical benefits to same-gender domestic partners (which means homosexuals) in 2012! The cost is estimated to be $300,000 for some 50 employees.

WHY Should You Get Involved Now?

  1. This is a line in the sand moment in our city.
  2. God has placed YOU in this city as a moral agent for Him.
  3. A similar proposal in San Antonio was defeated by a great, united, public outcry of Christians on January 29, 1998 and CAN be defeated again but we must unite and convince our city council members: “Don’t vote against marriage!”
  4. Christians are to be the salt of the earth. Salt that has lost its savor will be trampled under foot.
  5. A vote FOR this extension is a vote AGAINST marriage.
  6. Each of us (Pastor, City Council Member, City Manager alike) is ultimately accountable to the One who instituted marriage.
  7. James 4:17
  8. If we don’t rise up now, we will have conceded a major moral battle.
  9. If we rise up now but lose, at least we’ll have stood for righteousness.
  10. Heaven is watching.
  11. Pastors are permitted, we have freedom to speak on moral issues. We can't endorse a political party or a particular candidate.

What CAN You Do?

  1. Step up to the plate. Be a voice for marriage.
  2. Contact your city council member by e-mail, letter, etc. and tell him/her “Don’t vote against marriage!” (BEST before Aug. 31, next best before Sept. 7, last chance Sept. 14.)
  3. Download contact information, points to consider and daily prayer points from website www.Gathering-SA.org and provide them to your people.
  4. Read your e-mail or letter or summarize any phone conversation with your city council member to your congregation on Sunday, August 28th and/or Sunday, September 4th and implore them to make a similar contact with their city council member preferably before September 7th, and definitely before September 15th.
  5. Forward this in an e-mail to your pastors and members circles.
  6. Attend and (if willing) sign up to speak at the August 31st public hearing scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at (114 W. Commerce). This is a Wednesday. If you just can't come, please authorize someone to attend on your behalf.
  7. Pray earnestly.  You can use the Daily Prayer Points on this site.
  8. Attend the Voices For Marriage press conference on Monday, August 29 at the steps of city hall at 11:00 a.m.
  9. Facebook/Twitter the www.gathering-sa.org link (with comments) to your friends/followers to get this news out to them and their friends quickly.
